hellbent

hellbent started in the late nineties in the deep south. he began posting wheat pasted phrases and became amused by the various stories that began circulating him. influenced by the work of jenny holzer and barbra kruger, hellbent would soon found himself in Brooklyn, experimenting with various media. he began carving predatory animals and jawbones on wood and then using floral stencils to soften the effect of the attacking animals. these plaques can be found throughout new york city, atlanta, los angeles, zurich, glasgow, and paris. since twenty eleven, the backgrounds that started on the plaques have become the focal point of his work. the abstract configurations of multiple patterns layered on top of each other and sometimes arranged in quilt-like patterns have become his calling card.
