issue five: chase the dragon.
april, twenty thirteen.

here we are with another issue of our gorgeous little powder and we be chasing that ever so dastardly dragon in more ways than one this time. personally i feel utterly exhausted by the month long chase that i’ve been on.

i’m honoured to have been speaking with tenzin tsundue who along with being an illustrious poet and writer is also a tibetan freedom fighter. one could say that a dragon has occupied his homeland since before his birth but rather than running from his oppressors tenzin turns and gives chase.

speaking of activism and facing up to your oppressors you simply must check out ahmad mesleh’s photographs in his piece eye on palestine.

another treat, and such a treat it is, is that elizabeth resnick, shares with powder a selection of stunning political posters from graphic advocacy which is an ongoing exhibition she’s been curating for years.

it’s been like joyous blessings have been falling from the sky this month as i got to speak with the totally worldly and gorgeous kathryn buford of live unchained. her organisation is empowering artistic women from the african diaspora.

and oh my, my you’ve just got to become acquainted with powder’s newest roving reporter, charisma stockton… you might say that debauchery is her middle name. she takes us on an adventure to the los angeles medical cannabis cup in her piece dust and smoke in san bernardino.

and of course if charisma’s licentiousness isn’t enough to satisfy you’re overindulgent hunger you can always check in again with abe and vinny who’ve both got their own wanton tales of dragon chasing.

my, my and there’s even more, i also had the utmost pleasure in speaking with the los angeles street artist, cryptik. the intricacy of the art you can view in his gallery is completely coupled with the mystical words he has to express in his interview. he works with eastern philosophies and his movement seeks to awaken people’s awareness.

ben frost also graces powder with his outrageous pop art… check it, will blow you.

fashion photographer lee nutter absolutely spoils us with his series of shots of model teisha wheaton. sisters lara and tura of ahka vintage display their classic vintage styles. and if you want to see street fashion, well eye store shows you what’s going down in the southern cities of china.

we’ve got whimsical poetry from our regulars louise carter, nimmy joshi and karlina veras; while delgado takes us on a dark adventure.

oh and i suppose i should mention that paulina insisted she’d write a piece on feminism this issue. i tried to talk her out of it but she wouldn’t listen.

and why did all of us here at powder do this, well it’s all for you... you sexy little minx. so while you peruse the pages i’ll be dreaming of you.

frankincense,
