issue seven: incense.
july, twenty thirteen.

well hasn’t it been awhile and aren’t i just thrilled to welcome you back to our current issue of powder.

fragrant and light, swirling and twisting, it’s makes every moment sacred and refined: sandalwood, frangipani, clove, juniper... whether it’s the faint scent of a chinese joss stick, the thick, sticky smoke from indian doop or the earthy aromas of a stick of tibetan.

honey, you goddamned succulent little piece you, what’s your favourite incense?

well I can tell you what los angeles based photographer, kaliisa conlon’s, favourite is or you can just check it for yourself in the interview she has with sorceress heather anneleice young… but don’t stop yourself there gorgeous check out the gallery of her shots.

some kind of scents can send your mind a-swirl and that’s what karlina veras has a peek upon in magic incense.

you know a lot of incense is produced in asia and that’s why we waft over to singapore to check out some sensual shots of the female form by jeff boyle, in ikon visuals.

speaking of strong, stunning, empowered women from the east well that is what much of the subject matter that fin DAC creates in his innovative style of street art: urban aesthetics. let me tell you we had a terribly enthralling conversation and there’s a gallery of his works just to wet your palate that much more.

now if any of you are more into machismo you just have to check the interview i had with the iconic drag king, rocco d’amore. i mean i got all hot and bothered during it, so while you’re perusing the article check out the shots.

of course india is known for its sweet, spicy incense and vinny sent back a dispatch to powder from the burning ghat in varanasi. ajinkya chabukswar journeyed out to a hash producing town, malana, and took some amazing shots. ella fox, well let me tell you ella certainly has the gift of words and she spins a saucy tale about kali and the birth of time. while sagar shiriskar has taken some ethereal images from bhuleshwar temple.

as always powder’s got fashion funnelling… wallace chapman of street and city photos, new zealand’s most renowned street fashion blog, shows us what’s hot on the streets of auckland and wellington. while lee nutter, sydney fashion photographer, takes some absolutely breathtaking shots of model mea culpa in conduit.

the polymath, musician and citizen journalist, nanjira sambuli, is back at powder. this time she talks with me about her utterly inspiring life.

sydney based street and tattoo artist, sprinkles, displays some of his wild haired, heavy creations that make him one of the best street artist that city’s got.

louise carter is back with some of her divine words that flow like the smoke of incense. nimmy joshi relates the tale of a woman who’s had enough in scalded cat whilst delgado twists a disturbing story in violeta.

oh yeah and once again our regular agony aunt, paulina noir, is being her usual vulgar self.

so sugar let me just say i really hope and am thoroughly sure you’ll be mesmerized by this divine issue of powder.

and what i want you to do now, little one, is grab a few incense sticks, hopefully something of the sandalwood kind, because baby this time i’m coming right around… we can read the mag together and then after that the delights that await you well let’s just say they’ll be absolutely lascivious.

frankincense,
